#TourIsrael: Hiking in Mt. Meron

Getting connected with nature is one way to destress from the job of being cooped up.

Mount Meron is the highest peak in Israel at 1,208 metres (3,963 ft) above sea level. As we are not Jewish, we opted not to visit the popular religious burial site of Rabbi Simon bar Yochai from the time of the Romans, a prominent Rabbi who authored the Zohar, a kabbalistic book.

The hiking trail is 1.5 km and its quite easy even for city legs. It took us around 2 hours because of the constant picture taking. The view from the lookouts are simply magnificent. You can see Syria, Lebanon and the Galilee.

The wild thistle flowers are blooming all around that our guide is always calling us to make a move.

The trail is shaded by oak trees so the sun was not baking us. The very top of the mountain would offer a fantastic view all around but it is a military base, sad to say.

It’s a beautiful worthwhile hike during the start of the summer. And lunch at a nearby Druze village, yum!
